Santiago Atitlįn is a very important lakeside town. It was founded in 1547 by Franciscans. They were defeated by the Spaniards and destroyed their city in 1524. This town has a beautiful church, and a mixed religion of Mayan and Catholic beliefs. The most visited Maya saint is called MAXIMON by the natives MAXIMON. It is one of the things that people like to see in Santiago. If you are interesting in shopping in Santiago, you could find gifts for you or for your friends: textiles, carving wood, paitings and much more.
